Starting off on an equal footing

24 07 2012

For my first post I’m starting out positively. Congratulations to the SNP government and all of the equal marraige supporters. But now I’m going to look back at the whole campaign (the consultation, the aggravation and the idiocy).

We’ve done it, we’ve changed the world (well been one of the few countries that want true equality).

Apparently 64% of respondents to the consultation apparently were against, although this includes petition responses and postcards, this just shows that the people who are against us are mobilising their troops (they’re the ones calling it a war) in a more spread out way. However the good thing is that of the people who bothered to read and fill out the consultation we had 65% support. Both figures come from the BBC report a few days ago.

If there’s only 1 in 10 going to church every Sunday in Scotland (Christian Research, 2008) the fact that this minority have so much power is worrying. Also the fact of 215k of those were at the Catholic Church yet the only argument against comes from the Crazy Cardinal (no not Burns) Keith O’Brien. So basically a guy who claims to speak for 4% of our country, and I know that all Catholics can’t be as backwards as their leaders, so it must be much less than 4% yet he is the one almost controlling the debate in the media.

There was a lot of talk about redefining ‘Christian marriage’ well I’m glad to know the world of dowries and interfamilial widow remarrying is still looked upon with such fondness. Marraige is granted to Churches by the state, I can’t be the only one annoyed at the amount of things granted to the Church (education, tax breaks, Lords Spiritual, etc. but they’re for another rant) so why don’t we remove this from the Church. Sure they can bless whatever they like bread and a toaster or whatever they want but take away control of this word from these religionists. Civil marraige for men and women in whichever combination of two that they want, religion in the public sphere and having too much control over personal issues is not a good recipe. Also on a time level, the Bible says the world is 6000 years old so any couple ‘married’ before that in a way we’d probably refer to as outdated managed to do it without the blessing of God so I think we as a society may just manage it.

Also now Bishop Tartaglia has some gay bashing to do. For a company (or organisation the amount of money they make makes them a company to me) director whose own house has been tarnished by real mental disease why he saw fit to attack David Cairns, the now sadly deceased MP for Inverclyde, and to accuse him of dying because of his sexuality. He had pancreatitis, I know some religionists aren’t up on their science but pancreatitis sometimes even happens to straight people.  Even the son in law of Winston Churchill but of course he must be a gay.

Yet it is us secularists or atheists (as they mean the same to these idiots although completely different) who are apparently intolerant of religion. We just want equality yet this group want to keep their privileged position in our society. If any secularist wants anger look at the Lords Spiritual. That is one of the vestiges of Christian rule I can’t wait to leave behind when independence comes.

Feel free to comment, argue, agree, or whatever, this is just my opinion I make no claim to be right apart from the fact that I am.
